Reforms will help farmers stand tall: Tomar

NEW DELHI: Union agriculture minister Narendra Singh Tomar on Monday said reforms initiated by the Centre would help farmers “stand tall like big industrialists”.

“With initiatives such as new farm laws, Rs 1 lakh crore agriculture infrastructure fund, Rs 15 lakh crore easy farm loan through kisan credit card, 10,000 FPOs and direct benefit transfer under PM KISAN, our farmers will soon stand tall like big industrialists,” Tomar said while addressing representatives of farmers’ unions who pledged support to the new laws.

“A few detractors are stopping our way. But I am sure that with your (govt-friendly farmers) support, we will be able to convince protesting farmers. With the implementation of new laws, our farmers will become self-reliant,” he said, adding: “Due to the pressure from external forces, Manmohan Singh and Sharad Pawar failed to implement reforms… These forces can’t stop our Prime Minister Narendra Modi.”
